Before the COVID-19 pandemic began last spring, the Outreach & Missions Committee embarked on a project to fill 40 Flood Buckets. The Flood Buckets are part of a United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) program to provide disaster relief. This project was put on hold last year, but we are now continuing this mission. We want to thank all of you who donated last year helping to raise a total of $1,965 so far, but we need another $1,200 to $1,500 to reach our goal of filling 40 buckets for 40 days of Lent. Some of the items in the bucket have increased in price since last year because they have been in short supply but in heavy demand because of the pandemic.
The latest area of the country to need flood buckets is Texas after their extreme low temperatures. UMCOR is responding to this crisis and is asking for help to resupply flood buckets. We are grateful to be able to do something to help people experiencing floods and other natural disasters.
To fill one bucket costs approximately $75. All donations, big and small, are needed and will help us order the supplies in bulk, thereby keeping the costs down. Please help us reach our goal to fill 40 flood buckets by making your check out to CSA, earmarked for “Flood Buckets Mission.” We will be collecting donations for the next three weeks and assembling the buckets in early April.
